God is Boring
God is very ho hum.
Being able to do anything you want whenever you want is actually very dull. God is a very tedious character.
Christians don’t confront this, but it’s implicit in all their work. Churches have to practically beg people to attend their services. Christians threaten people into joining their religion, saying, “If you don’t worship God, you’ll be tortured for ever and ever!”
This alone implies that the Christian god lacks an inherent appeal. God simply is not very charismatic.
But also, if you think about it, being God must be pretty boring. If you’re God, you have all the power. You can do anything you imagine at any time, but no matter what you do, the stakes are low.
If you are God, you could create a bicycle race for hyenas through a landscape populated with flaming penguins in which the prize is a lifetime supply of free sex, but so what? What next?
God has infinite power, theoretically, so God could always do better, no matter what he does. God could always make something more exciting than what he has done.
God’s dopamine centers must be completely exhausted. He gets whatever he wants all the time.
God is like ChatGPT. When you hear about it, it sounds fascinating. You can get the bot to make whatever text you want. But then, when you do it, you realize that none of what ChatGPT means anything. It wasn’t thought up by anyone else. No one cares about it. No one else is going to read it, because the world is quickly being filled up with massive amounts of other generative AI slop.
God made an entire universe. It’s filled with his Creation slop.
Plus, God knows everything. So, God is never ever surprised by anything.
God is boring.
This concept is explored in the music video seen below:
The lyrics of the song:
“God makes me feel not very much at all.
There is nothing as boring as God.
I know you might find this slightly odd,
but when a spirit has everything and can do anything,
it has no spirit and that makes it a fraud.
God is boring!
The Lord is uninteresting!
Jehovah is dull and repetitive.
God is boring!
There are no stakes to being God. God is like a man who walks into a casino with all the money in the world and sure to win every game.
God makes me want to take a nap.”
